Old vent for a new vent

Good Afternnon... My house is about 50 plus years old and we have been working on the kitchen from hell.... We are about to complete the drywall but there is one spot I have issues with. THere is a fan vent that has no fan si it is just a door to the outside. I want to install a hood vent that will vent outside so can I use the existing hole or do I need to make a new one...
