JustJen - Jenks.. coat color question - non equine

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

do you think your genetics coat color/patter research would carry over to dogs?

On the Pets forum, we have a thread going about "Isabelle has a reunion" about a dog that was supposed to have a ..pardon the spelling Shiz zu --- oh, I messed that up --- for a dad and a collie mix for a mom. From the descriptions of the mom, we figured out she must be part Australian Shepherd. The family is from Mexico and the dog came from Mexico with them so... who really knows about her. As the puppy grew, she became WAY to big for that cross. Some thought Newfoundland for the dad... but there are many guesses. The owner went back to visit the people today and took pictures of the mother. She has them on this thread. The solid black dog is the 6 month old puppy. She is all black, with a few white toes. You can see the mom dog in the thread. They are wondering if the Golden Retreiver who visits could be the dad, but I am thinking that there would have been at least one pup that would have had gold on it. There were quite a few pups, one was patched black/white... rest were all black - except this pup with the white toes. Perhaps others ended up with small white areas.

Here is the thread http://davesgarden.com/place/t/623644/

What do you think... the golden would be less dominant than black... right? But wouldn't there likely be at least some gold somewhere, considering the Mom has copper trim?

Just a puzzle for you all..... Please post on the pet forum page for all to see??? Thanks.....
