cannas

Conway, AR

In the area I live the cannas just seem to not be blooming this year. I wonder what the problem is. Would it be b/c we just did not get very much rain last summer and winter? Do they need to be fertilized?

Mine are blooming like crazy, I give them bulb fertlizer early spring and middle summer. In-between, if I'm throwing any other kind of fertilizer (general plant food) around the flower beds in the meanwhile I pitch a little to them also. Take a short drive to see other people's cannas are blooming or if it's just yours.

I put slow release fertilizer on the ground around them when they sprout and WATER, WATER, WATER. You can even grow most varieties in a pond... not deep in the bottom, but on a ledge. They do NOT like to be wet/soggy in the winter time, but when they're growing they do!
