Garlic in the butterfly garden

Greenville, IN(Zone 6a)

Well, I planted garlic in my flower gardens and the butterfly garden and am starting to get worried, I have no caterpillars yet, does anyone else have any caterpillars in this zone yet? I really didn’t think it would hurt so I planted it in all flower gardens to keep the cotton picking moles out and they still are tunneling through!

LeBug,

I have searched for information to link garlic to the butterfly garden regarding caterpillar host plants, and I have yet to find any connection - good or bad. Maybe someone knows from experience or some tale from relatives how to link the two. sorry!! No can find!!!!

Jazzpunkin, is this just a spray that you spray your yard for mosquitos with? What kind of spray is this?
I found another fennel plant today I forgot about under the trumpet vine, it didn't have any cats on it either and there is no garlic there, the only bed I didn't plant it in, maybe it's just too early for the cats here. I'm really not seeing all that many butterflies yet either.
I saw one cat earlier this spring just before a cold spell and that is it.
Karin, thanks for your trouble, I just don't know what to do, I dug all of my garlic up but if that is why I'm not getting any cats it's probably too late, the garlic is in the soil :(

LeBug Yes it is for spraying your yard.. Non toxic.. I have not tried it yet but was researching it once because we had a very bad mosquito problem and I don't like using pesticides. I have actually heard that catnip is toxic to insects and an effective mosquito repellant but I have this vision or being ignored by mosquitos but having every stray cat within miles rubbing all over me.. umm... no

I have a cat that hangs around my plants and I have a 2 gal. pot of cat nip, do you know this cat will not have anything to do with it, I have broken pieces off and let her smell it and nothing? I kept it in a pot, I was worried that the cats wouldn't leave it alone, now this is the only cat that comes around and it doesn't have a home (he sleeps in my garage, but he's not my cat lol), maybe his smeller is off lol So, I grew some more this year and planted two plants by our gas tank, there are a lot of mosquitos there that will come in handy if it's good to keep them away. I'm getting ready to plant a new flower garden there on the other side of it :)
No cats today :(

I was just reading about that garlic repellant the other day when a friend mentioned reading about it. Here are some links that dispell the hype a bit:

I can't imagine a garlic compound being indiscernable to humans, but able to repell mosquitoes for 60 days. I'd read about the CO2 traps being marketed and learned they only attract certain kinds of mosquitos, not all of the ones we have. Bummer!
