Does anyone know how American beech will perform in zone8b ? I would like to have one but have never seen them this far south. I'm assuming it would need part shade?
Fagus Grandiflora
It is mapped as native throughout Alabama and into northern Florida, so it should be no problem.
Try to find a local source (is there an Alabama Native Plant Society?), rather than importing a plant from a nursery who might have grown the plants from more northerly seed sources.
