Here's my dilemma...we are selling my mother-in-law's house in Rockford, IL. I want to dig up some of the asparagus crowns to bring back with us to Coventry, RI. We are renting a Penske Truck to haul back some furnishings and whatnot. It'll take us 2 days to drive from there to here. Am I nuts thinking I can transport these crowns 1,000 miles? If I wrap them in wet newspaper and store in ziplock bags, will that work?
Transplanting Asparagus crowns
I bought crowns through the mail - so you should be able to transport them. Just a thought that someone else should comment on - because I'm not that knowledgable - maybe they should go into cold storage to simulate winter and get planted out in the spring? I'd also suggest putting them in an insulated container so the heat of the truck doesn't steam them for you. What have you got to lose giving it a try?
