Iris First Aid

Brewster, MA(Zone 6b)

An iris bloomed this year that I had never seen before, resembles Ma Mie. It had been crowded out by other irises, and the bed it's in is on the shady side anyhow. It had three little buds, two little blooms, got pelted down by unusually strong rains and is pretty skimpy now. On the other hand, it must be pretty strong to have survived at all.

Should I leave it where it is until it gets stronger, or should I transplant it to a sunnier bed now? Thoughts?

Transplant it to a sunnier bed if your temps are below 90. The more sunlight it gets for the rest of the growing season, the better. It won't get any stronger in the shade. It'll just weaken until it gets moved to more favorable growing conditions.

Will do. Thanks very much.

Update.

The little iris is doing much much better, even with all this rain. Thanks again.

I'll be moving a lot more iris to that side of the house -- it's on a sunny slope, and they really like it there.
