Homemade insecticidal soap that won't burn tomatoes?

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7a)

I've been using a commercial kind for the last week or so but it's getting expensive, especially since I can't find anywhere around here where I can buy the concentrate. Is there a homemade kind I can make up to zap my aphids? And is there a particular kind of soap I could use to lessen the chances of it burning? I plan to apply it in the early morning to lessen the risk of burning as well. It is getting quite warm here and my tomatoes are blooming.

Thanks for any help!

I've been using Murphy's Oil Soap for years. Just an oz per quart and spray away. Fairly inexpensive, about $3 per bottle, and usually get a year (season) without buying more.

Is Murphy's organic?

For aphids I just use water. I hose 'em off.

I'm using Dr Bronner's peppermint soap available at many health food stores. A couple of tbsp per quart of water

Upper Marlboro, MD

Did anyone have success with the murphys or peppermint soap? Also does anyone know how to keep the tomatoes from splitting and keeping the cut worm out of the garden?

Many thanks,

Lady K
