Anyone good at IDing historic beardeds?

I have this lovely iris in several places on the property and I would love to have a name to go with the face.

First try: Indian Chief?

It's more complex than the Indian Chief pics in Plantfiles.

There are several pics of Indian Chief here -- do any of them match yours?

Not really.

The color is close on the last one, but the form and the lines are different.

In my search I found my yellow one: Flavescens.

That iris is NOT INDIAN CHIEF. It is much older, and is absolutely gorgeous.
Maybe an old Verdier called PROSPER LAUGIER?

That looks like it! I knew it must be quite old because my other historics are from 1813 and 1840.

I sent an e-mail to HIPS about it being PL. Where is your pic from sugarbean? Do you collect historics? Do you think this is Lorelei?

I took that picture of PROSPER LAUGIER at a historic display garden in Portland during the iris convention. Your other iris is not LORELEI. Maybe PRINZESS VIKTORIA LOUISE, but I am not sure about that midline on yours. When I go home tonight I will pull out my PVL pictures and take a closer look.

I know that white midline is throwing me. Do you have any pics of PVL? Also my e-mail bounced back from HIPS.

I love that last one. Your first two look like the ones that came with our farm, but I have no idea what they are. The two tone purpleish one I matched up with indian chief, dauntless, and another that Laurie had photos of, but she said it really isn't possible to match them up with a photo as there are a lot of similar ones...Is your flavascens shorter than the purpleish one?

Here is PVL. Yes, it has the midline. Is this a shorter iris (like IB height)?
