Cucumber Beetle Control

What do you use to kill them?

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7a)

I grow a trap crop (which is merely a single squash plant) near my compost pile. I have no idea what it is; I always get seedlings near my compost pile so I let them grow. Every morning I go out and knock the beasties into a cup of soapy water. This doesn't provide total control but it's really knocked the population back a lot. I've got some rowcover fabric on the way so I'm going to try that. I know Peaceful Valley Farms sells a lure for sticky traps.

I'm pretty lucky so far - The only bugs that give me a hard time are flea beetles and cucumber beetles. However, the cuke beetles are pretty bad and it's frustrating to go outside and see the tell tale signs of wilting on my cukes. :-(

Shenandoah Valley, VA(Zone 6b)

I'm growing amaranth in the chicken pen (in a wire hoop so they can only eat part of the plant) as a trap crop. But I'm not messing around this year: I also have a strong diatomaceous earth/pyrethrin powder I will blast them with after bee hours. Last year all my cucumber/squash family was wiped out by bacterial wilt brought by these cursed beetles.

Here are some organic controls suggested by folks at this site. I will try them as well as the big guns I mentioned. As always, even w/ organics do watch out for your beneficial insects!
