Fragrant Impatiens

Edinboro, PA(Zone 5b)

Hi. I'm new to the forum. Someplace I think I read about a very fragrant Impatiens, something like the tall ones the Brits call Policemen's Helmet. Does anyone know what it is and where I could find seed?

Thanks,
Brian

Hi Brian and Welcome to the forums. I have never heard of scented impatiens but I would love it if there were some. I would be the first in line to buy some for my gardens. I am going to do a search and see what I come up with.

Brian here is a link you might want to check out. I didn't find any fragrant impatiens but saw lots of beautiful fragrant flowers on this website.

I believe that Policeman's Helmet is Impatiens glandulifera: http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/2151/index.html
However, I am not aware that this (or any other) impatiens was fragrant (or at least not very much so). This one also appears to be invasive in some areas, so I would do some homework to figure out if it's invasive in your area before planting it.

Thanks for the info! You guys are great. The search goes on...

It is called Impatiens tinctoria and it is sometimes available from Annie's Annuals in California.

Thanks, Ispahan! The search is on!
