Using an old Ice Cream Maker as a container

Des Moines, IA(Zone 5a)

Has anyone tried using an ice cream maker bucket for a container? I was wondering if salt has soaked through the wood enough to be bad for plants. Any thoughts? Experience?

Thanks

I haven't used an ice cream maker (great idea though) but I have used old whiskey barrels. I don't think the salt traces would be bad but you could try lining with some plastic (with drainage holes punched through) if your worried.

I'm looking for a rustic wheel barrow for a container. Shop those flea markets!

Yes, I have a kalanchoe planted in one and it is doing just fine. It has been in there for 1 year.
