What should I fertilize my hydrangeas with? I planted these last year as bare root plants. They seem to be doing o.k. but I'm hoping fertilizer will help. Any suggestions? Thx. goodfriday

I give my hydrangeas a boost each year with composted manure, compost, and alfalfa pellets. If you would rather use a store bought fertilizer, just get one for flowering trees and shrubs and you should be fine. You can also get one that has a systemic insecticide in it, which will protect your plant against chewing and sucking insects.
