I just got a Markham's Pink clematis and I planted it next to a rugosa rose so it would climb up ... but now I'm wondering if the rugged spreading roses might eventually kill my clematis ... what do you think?
Clematis and rugosa roses
I plant Clematis by alot of my roses and it hasn't been a problem.
Clematis are survivors and wonderful growers with age..you might wanna reverse that and wonder if the Clematis will kill out your Rose...Just kidding..they'll be lovely together in no time...can't wait for you to share pics...Jeanne
I'm glad to hear it -- these roses spread vigorously and pop up all over the place ... the clematis had buds on it when it came and is blooming nicely already ... I have it growing up a white rose that was my grandmother's (my mother has it growing at her place in Maine and I took a chunk from hers) ... the rose smells great but is not exciting to look at! So I hope the clematis adds interest ...
