Does anyone have experience with this clematis in zone 5a? I bought it from Bluestone (love their clematis, they always come looking well, and have had success with them so far). Their website says zones 5-9, so I thought it would be good for me. Then I was looking at PlantFiles (now that it's arrived) so I could move it into my journal and I noticed that folks said it was only hardy zone 7 through 11. I find it hard to think that Bluestone would be wrong by 2 zones, so maybe PlantFiles is off? I sure hope so... Someone in zone 6 in Michigan said it came back for them. Anyway, I'd be interested to know if anyone has it in 5a and if they've had to make special precautions for it over the winter or if it's been a "normal" behaving zone 5 clematis (i.e. leave it alone, it'll come back pretty reliably!)
Thanks

Clematis florida sieboldii
I have one but I keep it in a pot and bring it in the GH for the winter
Its not an easy clematis to grow ,so don't get discouraged
I have it in my Zone 8B..from what I have read from people in colder zones..they lose it from their winters..doesn't seem to like the cold...make sure and plant it deep and mulch well for the winter...it loves alotta sun...Jeanne
Hmmm...well I'm forewarned then, that it might not make it. It will have a ton of sun in the summer, and it will be planted in a backyard with a 6 foot cedar fence, which protects it somewhat. I will mulch well and see what happens. I haven't got a greenhouse to put it in so I'll just do my best with it in the ground. Maybe I can try planting it closer to the house foundation to keep it a touch warmer also.
