a few years ago we grew some atlantic giant pumpkins, the vines were so prolific we started chopping the ends off and eating them, and the baby pumpkins as well, they were like good summer squash. and a good pot of greens. anyone tried it? Supposed to get rid of most of the setting fruit anyway so the rest can get bigger. of course we've always fried blossoms in batter, they're good, as well as squash blossoms and daylillys.

Hey, I didn't know you could eat those. Very good information to know.
Thanks for the info. I have never tried eating squash vines, but I have read that they are highly regarded in India. A couple of years ago I learned that pea shoots are wonderful. Maybe I need to try squash vines next.
After reading your post, I just happened to be reading The Compleat Squash by Amy Goldman, a great book for many reasons. She has a recipe for "Sauted Squash Shoots and Tendrils" on page 184. It is incredibly simple. It is very much the way I cook spinach. I can't wait to try it. If you don't have the book, I recommend a trip to the library.
