Intermediates Not too Tall, Not Too Short

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

I am overwhelmed again this year by the large blooms and short foliage of my Intermediate iris. They bloom between the Dwarfs and Tall Bearded--extending my iris season. the color range is nothing short of amazing!

I like the height, the blooming period and the way they hold up. No fall over in strong winds!

Red Zinger just opened for the first time this morning. I've had it for 4 years waiting for a bloom--a hard freeze got the buds last year.

The number of blooms on Az Ap is amazing. That looks like one blooming fool.

Az Ap usually blooms heavily for a month each year. it also increases quickly. I don't know how it manages it.

Here is a good example why I like the Intermediates so much. lots of flower power in a contained area....

Radiant Burst is REALLY gorgeous this year with it's brighly painted blooms!

Some of the Intermediates are small bloomed and others are comparable to many Tall Beardeds. Low Ho Silver has not only a large bloom, but is a consistent fall rebloomer in my zone 5 garden.

Viola and Lunar Frost are both great. I love that shade of violet in the garden. I'm at work now and there are 4 vases full of Iris on the desk. Two of my co-workers and I all brought some in yesterday. I need to get some photos posted, but am having problems with my computer at home, so just have to enjoy looking at yours.

Susan, is is heaven or torture to have iris surround you but not be where they are growing?

Had several DGers visit my overloaded iris beds this afternoon & evening: Alwaysweeding, Pho, Linda_IA and my friend JoAnn. All had ulterior motives & making lists . Last year's frosted buds caused HUGE overblooming clumps this year. need to split them again....

I enjoy looking at the blooms in vases as well as outdoors, but I'd much rather be outside than in here. Your Iris seem to be making up for last year Wanda. Beautiful!!

In Spades! Tall Beardeds are blooming --250 colors--thousands of blooms on big clumps! I'm having an "Open Garden" for the next 2 days to look for new members for our CR Garden club.

Gosh Wand, you really have the magic touch!! I've never seen such healthy looking big clumps! (except maybe for yours lincolnitess :-) I am learning so much from you all at Daves and getting reinspired when I make mistakes. I think thats how I learn best though, by making all the mistakes that are possible lol!

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

This is a special year for iris all around here. I've just lukced out with 250 different colors all deciding to bloom hard the same year. Could be 10 years before it cycles this way again...
