aquatic irises

Hattiesburg, MS(Zone 8a)

Hi, I have 2 ponds on my property that i want to plant the edges so that i don't have to weedeat them anymore. I have some cypress and cinnamon ferns already and will probably plant some more of them as well, however I was considering planting some sort of iris(Louisiana, Yellow-Flag,etc.) or grassy plant to line the borders of my ponds. I'm looking for something that grows fast and is hardy for my area. Any suggestions?

I wholeheartedly second the Louisiana Black Gamecock Iris!

A few summers ago, we literally tossed, soil and all, chunked a bunch of
Iris into our pond. No manner, just free tossing.

Just as you spoke of, it has surrounded the edge of the pond and
looks incredible!

I do not have experience with a mass of Flag Iris, though I would imagine it
would hold steady, multiply and refuse to budge.

:-)

Here is a pic of ours in bloom as of this week, taken just a few

thanks for the help, your irises look great! I was thinking about mixing several of the different color varieties, possibly some blues, purples and whites.
