I went to visit my cousin yesterday in Va & she lives in a wooded area. I noticed, with delight, she had Rattlesnake Hawkweek growing & blooming all over her yard, so I dug some up, took it home to PA & planted it underneath my lilac bush (filtered sunlight). On doing some reading on it, I noticed it was not found in PA. Does that mean it won't survive here? I would appreciate any input on this as I fell in love with the green leaves with the purple veins. Do you think I should keep one of them in the greenhouse for insurance this winter? I also brought some blueeyed grass (Sisyrhincium) home with me and I know that is hardy in PA.
Rattlesnake Hawkweed collected in Va.
It's native...but since you said it's all over her yard....it may be kind of aggressive. Personally, since it's not native to where you live, and it's an aggressive native, I probably wouldn't plant it.
Yeah but as beautiful a little plant as it is, I don't mind it being invasive.
Are you in a position to post a photo of the plant you are referring to as Rattlesnake Hawkweek? Just curious.
I didn't take a pix of it, but here is a page that has a pix on it:
