Me and trackinsand were wondering how we tell if our cannas will produce seeds inside the pods. I know last year the pods i collected were empty, but i later heard that hybrids produce the pod without any true seeds in them? i would like to know just because i would like to try growing them from seed. So maybe im just trying to get at how do we tell if our plant is hybrid?

You should be able to see that they have seeds in them. They will look swollen and you also should be able to feel if it has seeds. It takes awhile for them to be ready after the bloom dies.
When the pods get to be a good size, just squeeze one. If it's hard, it has a viable seed.
It you can sqish it, it's not. As pods mature they will start to split open and you will seed the hard ball which is the seed.
