looking for suggestions...PINK SDB's

West Central, WI(Zone 4a)

Ever the "List Maker"........I am working on ideas for next year's additions. My irising for this year is done-- and I have a nice selection coming in from the Snow Peak co-op. I am trying to round out the colors I have....and I need to balance out w/ some pink.

So tell me about PINK--I'd love some suggestions! I'm especially interested in medium tone to brighter shades. And if you have photos to share--all the better ;0)

Thanks in advance~

My favorite pink so far is Chanted. It's a medium peachy-pink with a blue beard. It's a vigorous clumper, reliable bloomer, and has taller stalks than most other SDBs in my garden.

I will hopefully see a few new pink SDBs blooming here this year, so perhaps I'll have more to recommend in another couple of weeks!

For pinks, I like 'Proton'

and 'Fling'

Both are Barry Blyth intros I believe.

I also like 'Ballet Lesson', which is a pink and creamy yellow blend, but comes off as pink in my garden.

A good pink that isn't peach is still pretty scarce in the SDB/MDB categories.

Cocoa Pink is a nice beigy-pink with a pretty blue beard.

Laura, I just love your pic of proton -- that's one of the ones on my wish/trade list..

'Proton' is very pretty. It's definitely worth having!

Leon sent me 'Kiss Me Quick' a couple of years ago. He has pics of it in a blooming clump that are absolutely awe-inspiring! Last year in its maiden bloom here, it was considerably less than impressive, but I'm expecting it to do much better this year. I don't know if it'll ever look as incredible for me as it does for Leon, though. That man has a real knack for making irises happy! Still, 'Kiss Me Quick' is an incredible pink SDB when it's established and doing its thing.

Laurie, thanks for the kind thoughts; you are priceless! Kiss Me Quick is at the top of my SDB 'pink' roster. It is a rapid, rapid grower with infinite increases, and makes huge clumps here. Although it is a lighter pink, it is none the less a perfect all-around pink. I'll post a close-up shot here, and dig out a clump view later. I hope this will help with the pink list.

This is one of the clumps I have along the driveway. The clump measures approximately 20" across. It is hard for me to get flower detail at this distance. Several buds at the top right had yet to open when this was taken.

My 'Kiss Me Quick' had it's maiden bloom this year as well. It was (as laurief also said) less than impressive. Thanks to your pictures, TBGDN, I'm definitely looking forward to next year.

You are all great!

Chanted was alread on the list....and I just came upon Cocoa Pink. Laura your 'Proton' is really something....and now Ballet Lesson. Oh dear....

I'll have to check...but Kiss Me Quick sounds familiar...I may have rec'd that one late last year. How exciting that would be, its charming and who could resist the NAME?

I'm really stumped tho...why are pinks scarce in SDB's?
That would mean Leon should seriously consider getting seedling X (from the recent thread) out there, right?!?!

Barry Blyth seems to have produced a number of nice pink SDBs, but I don't know how many of them are in wide circulation in the U.S. yet.

Can you 'stand' another Blyth pink SDB? I got this one last year and I love it.
Its WINDROSE 1989.

I don't understand why that didn't work. Trying again.
