Check out Picardy!! I got him at a nursery here in town. Check out how big and how many buds he has!!!! I couldn't pass him up!!! It doesn't give the pruning group on Clematis on the Web.
New Clematis 'Picardy'!!!!!
That sure is a beauty..I just wonder if more of the leaves will turn that color...I love the wine stems too...When it blooms please post us a picture..I gotta have one of those..!!
What wonderous stems!
Perhaps you can find more info under its real name (true, trade names are so much more attractive and easier to remember, especially some of Evison's numerical guys.)
'Evipo024' Judging from the flowering time accordingt o Hull Database, my guess would be a pruning group 3.
I cannot wait to see the open-flower pictures.
K. James
Demstratt, I was talkin bout the different shaped leaves. There are quite a few of em on the plant. It's lobed, is that the right word??
Thanks for the info James. That name is on the tag, I guess he's a Clematis 'Evipo024', but I like Picardy better!!LOL I couldn't find it with the real name.
I'll post a pic as soon as he open up!! Man, I gotta get busy, I've got like 5 Clematis to plant, a Hosta bed to replant, and get all the grass out of my enlarged Hosta Bed!!!
Debbie.

Now I see what you mean..I like the shape of the leaves too..but the coloring is great too..!!Don't forget to post us the pictures once she blooms I don't wanna miss that...
Great find Debbie! I'm looking forward to seeing it when it's fully open. Plus, you have a lot more buds with the promise of flowers yet to be!
I'm betting on Group II.
It doesn't list a pruning group but the tag says "Prune each Feb/March to remove dead and weak growth."
I still say II. Baja, how do you interpret those instruction? What do you think it means "Prune each...remove dead and weak...."
Debbie!!!..OMG!!..I am just pea green with envy....makes me wanna drive to OKL for a bloody clematis..what nursery did you get it from?...It's beautiful!!...About pruning group..I have read alotta people are getting really good results treating it like a pruning group 3...it is one of those you can treat like a 3 or a 2...Hard or light...Check out my link..and scroll down to read about Picardy...congrats...Jeanne

Well, I guess I was trying to make a point the hard way. Those are awful instructions. If I never had a clematis before, I would think it OK to prune off all vines.
So, I've heard about treating 2 as 3 and I suppose you give up the spring flowers, but what is the flowering like later in the season? My 2s tend to flower heavily in the spring and just sporadically later on. I did have to prune back one of my Nelly Mosers this year due to damage from neighborhood ball game, so I guess I'll find out. My Mrs Bateman is just loaded with buds. Can't wait for her to bloom.
Ya still didn't say which Nursery..LOL..say Lowe's or Home Depot..so I can run out and look..LMAO....That is exactly what happens when you prune a 2 like a 3...you get the flowers later is all...some clematis can bloom on old wood and new wood...so you get the benefit either way...you can chose which method and let us know your results so if we get one then we can know which method works best!! Then there are clematis growers up North who have a shorter growing season that can't do that...Lucky us huh??...Jeanne
Jeanne, I got him at Southwood Nursery here in Tulsa. I don't know if they would ship or not. I looks like he could be taken outta the pot and shipped. He was not cheap, but look how big he is. Wonder how old he is??? Sorry I didn't answer, I didn't think you were serious!LOL There's also a website for the Raymond Evison Collection and I think there's a link to "where to buy". It's www.hinesvines.com
On pruning, on Debbie's site, some of her pruning tips says to pune as 2 and 3. Alternate individual vines. Here's one that says that http://www.silverstarvinery.com/vine_list_d.asp 'Dorota', just found one real quick.
Also, what are yals thoughts about pottin up Clematis? I'm thinking of showcasing this beauty in a cool new pot I got the other day. The pot has a 10" opening at the top, The widest part is 14" and it's 12"H. Here's a pic.
Oh yea, Jeanne, your link didn't work.

Thanks for letting me know where it's available..I just placed my order with Debbie at SSV..
Loretta..
Wow..Loretta..you say that you order a clematis from SSV in almost every post that you reply to ..you must order at least 2 clematis a day...how many Clematis must you have growing in your Gardens now???? When do we get to see all your lovely clematis??..
Wow Jeanne pleezze show me where I said that???
LOL, I did just place another order with Debbie. I ordered Fujimusume and Claire de Lune. Hope they are available. That makes 7 for me from her.
Hi Debbie.. Are you going to try to winter it over in your pot??I tried that a few years ago and mine did'nt make it..!!I got mine ordered from Debbie and can't wait it to get it she will ship it to me on Monday..!!
I didn't know. I figure you Clematis experts would know. Some clematis for sale say they are perfect for containers, only 6-8'.
Did you ask Debbie the pruning group?
Debbie
I went to Debbies site it's a pruning group 2-3....Maybe Shirley will know..I sure would like to keep mine in a pot that way I could move it around the deck..Your in a warmer zone then I am so maybe yours will winter over and be OK..I'll e-mail Debbie Monday and see what she says...
The smaller growing Clematis are perfect for container plantings. Make sure that your pot is deep enough so that the Clematis' roots will not dry out.
Baja brought me here. I just bought an "Evipo025" Versailles, and since I ONLY do containers, and have grown them in containers for years, this one is perfect! The most important thing is to be sure it's mulched over the winter to protect against thawing/freezing and that its roots are protected and watered occasionally if you don't get snow cover or rain in the winter. I have one large one in a pickle crock and another in a larger foam pot. For a few years I grew SA on my balcony railing.
I'm dying to see our two blooming this summer!
How do you keep your pots from cracking?
I dunno. They just don't. Of course this one's foam, and the pickle crock is a large one. They've just never cracked. I've had the crock for about ten years, and the foam pots for about six. Never a problem.
I just LOVE these Ray Evison patio clematis - I have the Versaille - bought last year - growing in this container on my patio. This has already been blooming for a month - with no sign of stopping. I understand it will bloom through September. I want to buy a few others in this collection.
