I have a flower garden underneath a large cedar tree that has started looking weak. The first few years the bleeding heart, coral bells, bergenia, solomon's seal, etc., looked beautiful. Now the plants and leaves are small and not blooming well. I was wondering if I need to do some adjusting to the soil ... doesn't a cedar tree's droppings make the soil either very acidic or alkaline? Which way to I need to adjust to balance the soil and what should I use?

Are they getting enough moisture and light?
Yes to both ... though we did have a very dry winter and spring. The plants have been getting smaller for a couple of years. Where are you from? My Grandmother was born and raised in Norwich.
