Should I worry about my Sweet Autumn clematis? I recieved it from a friend last year but all I see is dead wood, no greenery yet and no shoots comng up from the ground, do you think its dead? Or are they really late to come around? It was fine last summer,Thanks,Jill
Sweet Autumn Clematis....May & no new shoots/greenery......
Jill-
I don't know much about how things are supposed to behave in your zone, but I have an extra one up for trade, if you end up looking for another one.
It is in a three gallon pot, and would love a new home.

Thanks T, I may take you up on that, I'll wait a while tho.
My Sweet Autumn Clematis is displaying the same characteristics-i.e., nothing and its now the 5th of May. It was a very well established new plant last spring when I planted it, and i bloomed like crazy in September. I cut it back to the first two nodes in mid-March. Now, nothing. How patient do we have to be?

Well folks...I'm in 5a also...and mine are up and growing..big time!! You may have a problem there!
Christine...did it come back??..Jeanne
Hi Jeanne, no, not as of last night; I was gone too early this AM to check and home too long after dark to look. Today's been a clear but cold and windy day [of course, it's Saturday and the weather's been warmer all week... 8-) ...] I'm hoping, maybe that the warm weather through the week will have spurred it on to start growing. I'm rationalising that this is its first winter, and because its such a late bloomer, it'll just show up later this first spring, to get a good rest in for the vigorous growing season that he knows that he has ahead .... lol .... sorry, its been a long day...
Update to follow in the morning. G'nite.
Christine
My Sweet Autumn clematis looks pretty dead, however my "Henri" clematis vine is going to town!
