Rootstock of a Acer P. 'Glowing Embers'

Jacksonville, NC

Upon reading this:

http://georgiafaces.caes.uga.edu/viewtext.cfm?id=2460

--->"Chosen for its vigorous growth rate"

--->"Unlike many Japanese maples that require shade and moist,
organic
soils, Glowing Embers thrives in full sun. It's hardy in zones 5
to 8, and it tolerates drought better than most trees in its
class."

--->"Unlike other Japanese maples that are grafted onto a rootstock,
Glowing Embers is called a "clonal" selection. That means it's
propagated from cuttings and isn't grafted onto a rootstock.
Nurserymen refer to this as "growing on its own roots." They
love
this characteristic because it makes their production more
efficient and less time-consuming."

Wouldn't this be a excellent rootstock for grafting?

?Thoughts?

Well most JM rootstock is NOT grafted it is seed grown ... and it MUST be CHEAP $1 to $3 ( if purchased)for a 1/4 to 1/3" wide and 18-24" tall or really fast growing ...this size in one year if you're growing your own... and hardy..... most folks use green palmatum generic seed grown Jm's for rootstock. Your tree has but ONE of these characteristics ...HARDY ( alledgedly)....Of corse you could use seeds from your plant but they may turn out to be green palmatums anyway ;>) ...hope that helps...
