I am in a brand new house. The ground is solid clay, I would like to grow some vegtables this year. Has anyone any suggestions as to what would thrive here apart from root vegies?
I know roses will be fine but they dont taste to good !:)

Well I'm not sure what vegetables would like solid clay. I do know of perennials that would do well.
Some options to improve the soil would be to raise a bed with new soil or to amend the clay with compost.
Check out the straw bale gardening threads 1 and 2 in the Vegetables forum, that might be just what you're looking for. :)
