Canna Firebird

Columbia Heights, MN(Zone 4a)

I've never grown Canna before and I just got 3 tubers of Firebird from Old House Garden. This is a shorter variety and only gets 2 to 3 feet. I want to plant this in a container. Can anyone recommend what size pot for one tuber? I plan to use Miracle Grow potting mix. Any opinion on whether this might be too rich or not? I'd appreciate any feedback or tips.

Thanks

No, it's the photo from Old House Gardens catalog. Maybe I should take this question to the Container Garden forum.

I grow some of the smaller types in containers and I usually start them in pots no smaller than 18-20 inches in diameter. This allows them room to grow and it's easier to keep the soil moist. I've never used Miracle Grow potting mix...............just a potting mix by a local soil company. I don't think it would be too rich.

I have grown many cannas in containers.
They do very well in containers.
I use a good potting mix with 1/3 sand added.
Miracle Grow potting soil should work fine.

Choose a container large enough to accomodate Firebird as it increases. If too small it will be crowded and/or break the pot.

Thought I saw that photo before ..lol
Very nice pix of Firebird (o:

Best wishes :-)
