Thanks, Tammy. I went, I looked, I bought. I got 3 hanging tin planters, 3 barrel planters and 2 of the obelisks all for around 75.00. What a deal! I'm especially happy about the barrel planters. Now, lets hope they're not too cheesy.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Good luck on the obelisks. They're very flimsy if they are the same as I bought two years ago.

darn it! I hope they're sturdy enough for clematis. I just ordered 3 obelisks and I also ordered the barrel planters. The green trio is on sale for $29.95, while the white and the natural wood are $39.99, ten dollars more. Since I paint my planters to match my house, I went ahead with the greens.

The lady told me it was free shipping for phone orders $40 and above. here is their number. 800 901 9402. There are pushing some kind of health insurance, but you get a $15 gas coupon, just for listening. I think an AIG rep calls you at a later date. I said yes, with no intentions to buy the insurance.

thanks all for your tips. I will report here when I get the items.

Vossner,
Just read your post and was thinking about the treliss. I've made a couple out of 6 foot peices of rebar in a tripod shape held together at the top with heavy copper wiring. They are cheap to make and more sturdier than the one's offered.

Well, let's wait and see. Tammy called and asked about returning if not happy with the product, and they send you a Fed Express tag to send the items back cost free.

I just cut two big branches off a tree that is interferring with the sun in one part of my yard. I cut the brances down to about 6 feet and trimed off all the small side branches. I kept the ones that were interesting. I plan to sink these in a small pot of that quick cement and use as a trellis.

Fiasco on the ins. thing. My understanding was that I got a $15 gas coupon in exchange for "just for listening" to an insurance sales pitch. Well, I got the call today and it turns out that Lillian Vernon had already shared my credit card info with the AIG ins. company.

Have any of you ever wondered how you got magazine subscriptions that you never ordered but were billed for? Apparently some companies join forces and your credit card info is shared with the other company and voila, you are paying for stuff you don't want.

I told the lady I would report them if I so much as saw one cent billed to my account, but now I will have to keep a close eye on my cc statment for a couple of months to make sure they don't bill me. I have learned my lesson. I am going to call L.Vernon and complain about sharing my cc info, which I did not authorize.

I received the trellises very promptly. not very pretty but once covered with beautiful vines it won't matter. I have clematis growing along all three. IMO, the quality was a tad better than expected, but I would not use it for a monster climbing rose. I do like the fact it is 7 ft tall. Locally, I had not been able to find a tall trellis for less than $40, which I was not willing to pay. This will do, for a while.

Hi Vossner, I also was not too disappointed. I haven't put mine together yet, but as you say, once covered with vines, it will be fine. I didn't think the planters were bad either.

Do you have yours anchored in the ground?

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

beaker I also bought the barrel planters. Since I paint mine, I bought the green ones because they were 3 for $30. Vine growing along trees is honeysuckle. didn't bloom much this year, probably because I whacked the lower part of vine. It was such a bushy mess! Now it looks like the vine is growing from the middle of the tree. The severe whacking did not faze this plant in the least.

Beaker! we cross posted. The places where I put them have amended soil, so they were relatively easy to sink into the ground. I used a rubber mallet for a little extra help. I would say I sank mine about 10", that seems to be enough. Have had a couple of windy days and they didn't move at all.

Those are the green ones painted? Looks very nice. Did you use just regular paint, like house paint? I might paint mine too just to be more heat reflective. Haven't decided what's going in them yet.

I also bought the trellises and green planters because of you guys.I was expecting much worse after reading the posts.I agree with what has been said. Not too bad for the money, and will be great when the corkscrew vine fills out.I also would not put a heavy vine underneath.

Thank for the tip.

Downscale good for you. I buy things based on tips here and don't remember being disappointed once. Another one of those great DG features.

Beaker, yes, I use exterior house paint, same color as house trim. I have a can specifically for pot painting, get cheapest kind of exterior latex and it has proven extremely durable. I touch up pots every other year, but it is really not necessary. However, if I'm having a garden party or something, I might do it. I love buying "ugly" planters because they're usually cheaper (nobody wants them) and I know I can paint them. I even paint the "lite" pots. They take the paint quite well. Have never painted plastic pots. I prefer clay and the lite ones much better.

Columbia Heights, MN(Zone 4a)

Oh my, a garden party. Are white gloves mandatory? Up here a garden party consists of a keg of beer and something burning on the grill, LOL. There's usually alot of yellow spots in the lawn afterwards and it's not from the dog!

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

that is EXACTLY the kinda party I was referring to, except sub beer for cheap Arbor Mist blueberry wine cooler, shorts, and flip flops.
