I am landscaping my front and side beds. A landscaper has suggested a sweetbay magnolia tree about 15 feet from the front of my house in one of the evergreen beds. The info I read states varying growth 20 to 40' tall here in the North, but I was wondering if some of you may give me some personal observations. Any problem with roots so close to the house? Is it a messy tree as far as leaf/flower droppings? Overall impressions? Thanks!
Info on sweetbay Magnolia?
It should be OK there if it fits the design. I wouldn't place it much closer than that. It will do best in moist, acidic soil with a shaded rootzone.
