Canary Bird Vine

(Zone 6a)

I'm starting some canary bird vines from seed and I wondered if they would grow good in a hanging basket? And is there anything special they like in the soil or is average soil good?

Thanks,
Steve

This is the nasturtium vine, right? I heard they did well in baskets and weren't picky, but it's also my first year growing them.

Yeah it the yellow nasturtium vine, its my first year growing this one too. Heres the link http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/868/index.html .
Is it the same one you're trying?

That's it!

Ok, well hopefully they grow good, I've got a basket in part shade which they should look really good in and a chain link fence I want to try them on with N. 'Empress of India' at and around the base.

That should be gorgeous.

I thought about adding some peat or something to the soil by the fence... It's rather poor, hard, dry and part shade. But nasties rather like poor soil though. Maybe I should just dig it over? If they grow good they'll fill in a hole in the hedge :)

Hi SW_gardener,Zeppy,
I had some experiences growing Canary Creeper last year.
They made huge root balls ,so I'm afraid they wouldn't be suitable plant for a hanging basket.
I planted only one of it in the container, and the result is this.
