I have a few questions about Milky Spore. Do all the variations take two years to work? Can you use anything else for grubs in the mean time without killing the MS?? I also have a lot of fungus knats. Can I use a natural fungal control with the MS??
Milky Spore????'s
Another alternative to the milky spore are nematodes that feed on the grubs. I have heard excellent reports about using them but have not used them myself. You can buy them from Gardens Alive (among lots of other places.) Their (online) catalog shows all the different targeted species and explains more about their use.
I tried milky spore about 15 years ago. It was quite expensive and the results weren't noticeable. The reason the milky spore takes so long to work is for there to be enough spores to do the work. Since I garden for butterflies now, I have not again considered using it since it doesn't discriminate in the larvae it affects.
