Very nice TexasLou, and it looks as if it grows well for you too! I hope you'll post other pictures of your irises too when they bloom.

I love the subtle coloration. I don't think that I've seen this one before. Thanks for posting it.

Beautiful iris!

I'm going to have to add this one to my WANT list, and 'Skookumchuck' from the other thread.

This was a Walmart special 3 or 4 years ago. The blooms last year were not nearly so vivid. In zone 7b/8a (I'm on the borderline and never know which to believe), it is my first to bloom this year. I also have Persian Berry (deep rose) and 'something' Apoggee (yellow) with buds. Those are also from Walmart. BUT, last spring I ordered 16 with names from Oakes and from Hearthstone. Since joining DG, I have more respect for keeping the names and look forward for the new blooms.

I love this site and enjoy all the pictures posted by everyone! My daily visits are a very important part of each day. Keep sharing -

Today, I hammered 2 or 3 fruit tree spikes at the base of each of my thornless blackberry plants and gave them a drink. Last year I was amazed at the crop I gathered and each berry was the size of half of my thumb! The canes are 8-10 ft. long and sprouting at every joint.

Arbuckle, CA(Zone 9a)

Might be 'Radiant Apogee', which is yellow and white.

thank you, Sandy,

That is the name that I remember for it. The picture from the package is filed away so safely that I can't find it today! Credit it to a 74 year old senior moment- it's happening too frequently these days-

That last one looks like 'Egyptian' to me.

flowerfrenzy,
Thanks so much for the ID. I'll put that name with it on my files.

Louise

Vancouver, WA(Zone 7a)

Well, I'm not positive that it's 'Egyptian' but the main points (beard, falls, standards, etc.) seem to match.

flowerfrenzy,
I found the one above in the plant files
and it does look like it to me.
Thanks again,

TexasLou--You really are doing a good job, both growing and pictures. Thank you for sharing.

1gardengram,
The growing part is fun. I thought the posting pictures part had
gotten the best of me. I tried many, many times before it worked.

I did lose a picture of 'Champayne Elegance' that I was trying to
post this morning. While deleting some not so good pictures from
the computer, somehow, I accidently deleted that picture also. I
know there is some way to tell the computer to go back to yesterday's
specs but I don't remember how. That iris is a smaller very ruffled
bloom that is white over beige/tan.

This one blooming today was a gift from a friend who buys from Schreiner's. I wish I knew it's name.

Whatever it is, it is lovely!

Thank you !

I think it may be 'Affluence'. I'm not sure.

Texas,

Looks like 'Afternoon Delight' to me.

Your coloration is a bit lighter, but that could be because of the heat or the soil.

Hooks, TX

flowerfrenzy,
I think you are correct. I just remembered it started
with an 'A'.

Thanks for the ID,
Louise

p.s.- you are good at naming iris!!!!

Vancouver, WA(Zone 7a)

I guess it's all the time I spend looking and obsessing over them! LOL!

Laura

Hooks, TX

flowerfrenzy,

When I first found DG, I search the plant files for iris. There were
so many, I think I spent over 2 or 3 hours just looking at all of them.
I had just received 16 new ones from Oakes and from Hearthstone in September and found DG in November. There's no way that I can ever have room for all of the ones that I take a fancy to.

Louise

Vancouver, WA(Zone 7a)

...but you can always try to squeeze "just one more" in! LOL!

Hooks, TX

Last spring, I bought 7 from a lady in town. She has a manicured yard and an enormous iris bed, and a daylily bed and a huge hosta bed between two big trees in her front yard. At the time, I was only interested in the look of the ones I bought. Since joining DG, I think I'll go back, tour her garden and write down the names of the ones I bought.
We live and learn!!!

Flowerfrenzy,
Please ID this iris in bloom today. It has something over each fall that the other irises don't have.

Hi Louise~

I think the "thing" over the falls that you are referring to are those extenstions off of the beards? If so, then those are called horns, flounces and/or spoons. In your case, they're probably closer to flounces or spoons. Horns are more of a fuzzy, pointy extension.

Your iris would be a "Space Age" iris. This term refers to the presence of horns, flounces and/or spoons. I think you may have 'Thornbird' there, but there are a couple of others that look a bit like it. From the angle of the picture it's a bit hard to be sure.

Laura

Hooks, TX

The 'horns' are making shadows on the falls. And the purple is much more vivid in person than in the picture.
This was a gift at the same time as the 'Afternoon Delight'.
Thanks for the ID.

Louise

like i said - you are very, very good at ID-ing irises !!!!

Hooks, TX

Calling 'flowerfrenzy' !!!

This pink ruffled one bloomed yesterday. It looks like
the posting from Charlotteda called 'Dreamsickle'. Do
you think that is the correct ID for mine?
This is my first flower from this one and I didn't keep the tag. It is pinker than the picture shows it to be.

Thanks, anyone, for a name.

Louise
