I am about to plant one in a huge pot but I cannot decide what is the top and what is the bottom of this strange looking coconutlike thing, please help

the hair always grows upwards, the bottom is smoother with no hair. Sometimes there is a pink tip at the top where it has already started to send a shoot up.
