My chair...to paint, stain or not ?

I found a wooden chair in my garage (can't remember buying it!) and decided to pull out the woodburning tool. Burned some short little "notes" into it and will find a place in the yard/garden for it.

Should I paint it/stain it or leave it as is and just add some water sealer?

Looking for opinions!
