Another newbie!

Saint Clair Shores, MI

Hi...I just found this site and I'm hoping that I can find lots of info to help my little yard look much better. This will be the second summer in our house, but the yard didn't get much attention the first year because other house projects took priority.

I live in a standard brick ranch in Saint Clair Shores, with a pretty basic back yard (read: small and square). I'm hoping to start slowly by removing the old beds because there's too many weeds and old "decorative" rocks. The original owner just threw some stones down as ground cover (?) but nothing was maintained.

Oy! I hope it's not too hot this year! :)

Welcome Emily!

Glad to have you here in the Michigan forum of Dave's Garden. I had a small square back yard in Garden City but now live on 28 acres in AuGres. Don't dispare. I have seen a lot of really awesome small gardens. My suggestion would be to visit as many garden walks as you can this spring and summer not only in your community but in others. You can get ideas for arranging things that way and get to meet a lot of great gardeners who will share ideas with you.

Good luck and hope to see more of you here.

Hi Emily and Welcome to the Michigan Forum....you find this to be a real friendly place and with lots of gardeners who will be more then willing to help you get started.

I have seed I can share with you for postage...Just let me know what your looking for....Most of my seed is perennial so its going to be two years before you see results, but you gotta start somewhere.

May I suggest to try to come to the Roundup we will have in June at NotMartha's. She lives in Bay City, and it will be a great way to get live plants as well as seed. If I know your going to be there, I will bring extra plants for you to have. Just let me know.

Again....Welcome to Dave's.......

Deann
