granny smith apple

Morehead, KY(Zone 6a)

I was recently told by a local greenhouse owner that granny smilth apples do not do well in the ohio valley. Has anyone had any first hand experience with this variety in our area? If so, can you let me know about their performance please? Im just putting in my first orchard and granny smith is a universal pollinator Im told. The orchard is gonna be small maybe 6-8 trees total. Any tips or ideas are appreciated.

Thanks,
Rob

I don't personally know the answer to your question, but I do know a few orchard keepers. They are usually pretty friendly and willing to share their knowledge, if you were to call or stop by their sale rooms. We do well with early transparent here, and are just a little north of you.
