Sometimes when you buy potting soil, even the good stuff, it's dried out and hard to rehydrate. The nurserywoman at Lowe's told me to open the bag, pour in a cup or two of hot water with a few drops of dishwashing liquid mixed in the water, close the bag and let it sit in the sun for a day or two. It works great! It also stays moist and holds onto the water after you repot your plants.
Regarding the moisture crystals, she suggests not to mix them into the soil but to sprinkle them about 3 to 4 inches from the bottom of the container. I hope this info hasn't been posted before and it's of help.
Wetting potting soil
Helpful to me!
Thanks
thanks. everythng is helpful when it comes to containers.
That would make sense about where to put the crystals - as that is where the roots will be. Thanks for sharing that info - it also saves on how much you use!
