Of a Sweet bush or clethra that has stark red flowers and smells heavenly. Was long bloominf too. An old neighbor had one and I still remember that bush. Anybody?

Looking for a baby
Clethra alnifolia is the commonly grown sweetshrub species. You should be able to mail-order one if your local nurserries don't carry it. The old ones are white, but there are some newer pink and red cultivars. There also are a couple of other species, much less common.
You also might be thinking of Calycanthus, or Carolina allspice, which has dark red flowers (and yellow on at least one new cultivar). Google both genera and see which one fits.
