Iris newbie needs recommendations.

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

I know nothing about them so I need some input. I am primarily growing for fragrance now and have been hearing about Iris that smell of other things besides typical "flower fragrance". I am particularly interested in the Iris that smells of orange Popsicle/Creamsicle. I am also intrigued by the Iris that smells of grape Koolaid/soda.

If anyone can give me the cultivar names for these, I would greatly appreciate it!

One iris that I've seen listed as smelling like grape koolaid is "Good Looking"

One that I've seen listed as smelling like cherry blossoms is "Mesmerizer"

I've not heard of the one that smells like orange though.

Thank you so much Joan for the info!

I think there's others that are said to smell like grape koolaid too, but I can't think of them right off the top of my head.

I. Pallida smells just like grape koolaid. It has an old fashioned purple-blue flower and variegated foliage.

A newer one that smells a lot like grape soda is 'Posh Place' intro'd by Ben Hager. Here's my picture of it in the PlantFiles:

Another fragrant one (that I can think of, anyway) is 'Breakers'. It doesn't smell like anything in particular, but has a strong, sweet scent.

Most irises do have a scent when you stick your nose down into them, but the ones I mentioned are noticeable when passing by. Have fun!

I just remembered that Oasis Rootbeer is supposed to smell like Rootbeer too!

Thank all for the info! I think I have several to go on that have the grape smell.

So how about that orange creamsicle? LOL!!

I know there is talk of an iris co-op so I'm hoping to do my research and have some picked out with these 2 fragrances that will be offered in the co-op. [Said that with my fingers crossed.]

Thanks again!

Believe it or not - - there is an iris named "ORANGE POPSICLE”

According to the person from this website it is said............"This wonderful Iris actually does have a citrus fragrance. Some people say it smells like an actual orange popsicle but popsicles never get close to my nose; only to my mouth! The petals are delightfully ruffled and lacy with a yummy creamy orange color. The fuzzy beard within the petals is a bright tangerine orange. This Iris is always a surprise to see and to smell."

There is a photo of it too at this link:

(I've heard other growers say the same thing. I've never grown it myself, so I personally can't say).

Suttons Iris Garden carries this one. It is suppose to rebloom too!

If you love fragrance Sugar Blues is wonderful. Although it sure doesn't meet your other criteria. It's also a rebloomer.

Here's the orange one: somehow I missed it when I was there earlier looking...... and a Co that sells it- am going to their site now. http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/35930/index.html
