I hear you Blooms. I live on the edge of town. Across the road (to my West) is nothing but old railroad ground that a local plants sweet corn in. Behind that is the fertilizer plant that was the sauerkraut factory long ago. I have a field to look at out my north window and I've always walked the old railroad tracks. Someday it will change, but I enjoy the brush piles that some of us have built up across the road, and the general wildness that I see. Others might see trashy land, but you have to leave some places like that.
