remodeling the kitchen finally

I wanted to ask if anyone who has remodeled did away with the wall cabinets?
I have so little space in mine that I will not miss them if we don't replace them., I have a pantry so i don't store food in the kitchen only what is in the fridge.
I want to put the dishes in a drawer( I saw this in Europe ) peg board with pegs to hold the dishes in place.
There will be some open shelving, and open, under the counter storage maybe ( I am thinking I will have cats sleeping there so I may have to cross that off as an idea)
Just wondering what others have done, we have been planing on doing this for 3 yrs now here we are it is going to be a long haul because we are doing most of the work ourselves.
