Low-cost water pump, manual

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

It is a design by a local engineer. The one in the picture is installed in a well close to my house and the little one is my younger daughter posing at the handle of the pump.

The design is very simple. A PVC pipe is positioned. Inside it goes a nylon rope to which plastic bushes are tied at regular intervals so that the bushes freely move in to the pipe and through as the wheel is turned, bringing up the water from the well. There is the outlet pile to collect water. Effort is minimal and we wont feel the tightness at all while turning the wheel.
