Pruning A Desert Rose

Weston, FL(Zone 10b)

I have a healthy Desert Rose which has gotten quite "leggy". Any helpful tips on pruning this beatiful plant to optimize its growth.

Glen Rock, PA

There are bunches of plants called Desert Rose. Some of them: Aeonium arborium, Adenium species and some of the Pereskias. The solution depends on what your desert rose answers to.

Hi Pete ...
If I'm not mistaken my Desert Rose is an Adenium obesum. When it comes to gardening I'm a "rookie, novice, fledgling newbie" and newly retired. I'm looking to create a Garden of Eden in my backyard before I go off to visit the real thing!!

Your help is appreciated.

Hi Macmurdo :-)

Here's a couple good links about Adeniums.

Hope they help.

Hi MacMurdo
Welcome to DG and to being retired. I've always said God was everywhere but you could feel his presence in my garden more. His first job for Adam & Eve was to tend his garden.

I don't know how large your garden is but after a short time on this forum you'll be needing a bigger one. My only regret is I didn't find it sooner. I've never met a nicer bunch of people. It is so exciting for me to talk plants with people that are interested in plants. My friends and family aren't.

Hi, I have a number of Adenium Obesums and I prune them back every year. This also helps the caudex to fatten.
I usually cut them back at the beginning of spring and have never had a problem.
