i have posted this on this, tomato and container forums
i have a container that is 14 1/2 inches wide at the bottom
8 1/2 deep
19 inches wide at the top
can i plant two cherry tomato plants in this or maybe 2 beefsteak plants .
thanks
need advice
Herbie--
Don't know if you got any answers anyplace else, but I have had cherry tomatoes in big pots like that and they did fine.
Diane
In my experience, 2 cherry tomato plants would be fine in a pot like that. However, if you were thinking you'd rather do beefsteaks, I don't think I'd put more than 1 of those per pot. Beefsteaks simply seem to get too big and need a fair bit of space in order to do really well. Cherry varieties tend to be a little less space-concious.
thanks - some on the other forums say not to put beefsteak tomatoes in a pot that shallow but i would like to try it.
thanks again
