I got a Dmail from Dax080 and an invitation to meet her at our local Lawn & Garden Show today. I grabbed Linda-IA and her daughter iagardengal for moral support. (You just never know WHO these Internet people are...) Linda thought dax looked like a CR friend of ours.
We were looking for someone in a pink tshirt...
Okay--you got me! Great joke! I've known "Dax080" as Becky since third grade! We attended the same parochial school, the same Junior high, same high school choirs & Thespian Troupe. Her daughter Brenna was in choir & theatre with my daughter & Linda's other daughter!!! Isn't it a small world???
Okay Dax080, You Got Me!
Round too!
That is a funny story. You Iowa gals have quite a contingent here - congrats.
Al
Jackie of "My Savannah Perennial Nursery" Vinton, IA 52349 was there with a display . She has a lovely AHS daylily display garden with over 700 varities just a few miles from here. I visited her garden last summer in August to find some late blooming spiders for my own garden. Everything was healthy & well-marked.
Nice daytrip idea for all you daylily lovers....
We're working on it! I just want more pals for my gardeing roadtrips...
Fun! Now tell us who's who in the pic!
Ha - Ha - Ha - I was sure I wouldn't get away with it - Linda had an inkling, but Wanda was bowled over!! Loved it - if you know Wanda, it's tough to stop her in her tracks - Looking forward to new pals in the garden (although old pals in every other way) - and these ladies are in for alot of questions to help me out - I peppered them with questions the whole time today - I'm hoping to travel to the RoundUp this year to meet more DG'ers from Iowa. Thanks, Ladies - it was great to see you again. Can't wait to see your gardens later in the spring - LOL
Wanda that is really a cool story.
You can come by and pick me up if you need a traveling buddy. However, I will have to be home before dark, Bobbie won't allow me to stay out after dark looking at daylilies.
After dark with your midnight poaching shovel? It's been pointed out that I'm so kind to label my daylilies, iris & lillies so well. I'm getting a guard dog.
Maybe that's why Bobbie won't let him stay out and play after dark. ;)
Smart woman! I suspect that good old Georgia boy did alot of playing after dark in younger years....
...prolly hanging around with loose soil in another garden bed...
hee hee hee! Luv ya, GRC!
Oh NO! Got me! (hitting my head against the keyboard)
LOL Moby, Love you to. Hey that is what I grew these long legs for. I remember once during my later teenage years I went rabbit hunting late one night with a couple of buddies. We never saw any rabbits but we brought home a good mess of turnip greens. I don't think that was the loose soil Moby was talking about but that is the only story I am telling today.
That is your story and you are sticking to it???
Yes like glue.
hmmm. But we all know better. Gotta watch those Southern Boys, lots of charm and a gleam in their eyes. (Spent some time in Georgia as a traveling saleslady back in the early 80s--talking from experience! :) )
Hmmm... I know lots of traveling salesman jokes, but none about traveling salesladies.....
Inquiring minds are nosy Wanda! Spill, ROFL!!!
;~)
mg
Nooooo......I don't think you want her to do that.....
Moby,
If you didn't keep plying me with margueritas, you could keep your innocence! Let's see--I was in my early 30s , free & willing to check out the country. Georgia was sweet...
Wanda - were you and Dax cooresponding and she knew who you are, but you didn't know who she is?
Jody
Yes. Stupid, huh? Linda_IA saw a dax pic on a thread & sent me an email---"she looks alot like Becky" . Linda figured it out first.
That is too funny!
Well, Becky was always alot brighter than me.
Hey - no fair - it just helped me that Wanda had a picture of herself on her home page, and I didn't - I was scared the whole time she would wander into the "photos section" where I had put some pictures of myself - Whew!! It was great fun!! Love ya - Wanda
Hey - by the way, Wanda - do you know why you're listed as 5B and I'm 5A? I'm actually a couple of miles south of you! Becki
I think I goofed originally in my listing. Let me see if I can fix it... :)
I looked on "My Info" and then under "Manage Your Preferences" and then "Your location".
Granted, If I had a microclimate like my business partner's back yard (houses close together + solid wooden fence) I might be a bit warmer. As it is, Our big back yards butt up together & little blocks the wind that comes whistling down thru my yard & around the house. I have to leave dead plants in place all winter or my mulch gets blown away!

hey, it has to change somewhere ;-)
Hey - cool - I sure wish I could get to a 5b - saw the pictures of your baby pooch - such a sweetie, how's he doin?
Actually, in regard to zones, I find that lots of the stuff that starts with zone 5 hardiness doesn't do well for me. I try to stick with zone 4 on the low end. Every once in awhile I go crazy and decide to try a zone 5 plant I fall in love with................I usually end up regretting it.
Thanks, Linda - I'll remember that - I've wondered about it since I've had the same experience - I thought it was just because I'm so new to this - Becki
I'm getting like tazzy--I can kill ANYTHING given a chance!
Hey Linda--sidewalk supervisor gone? Great day to trim a tree. Got my saws out...
That is a very funny story! Gotta hand it to you I would have enjoyed having that played on me too.
Linda's big old crabapple tree is alot "thinner" now and we can actually SEE her house thru it. Amazing what two ladies with saws, limb trimmer & a ladder can do to a poor helpless tree.
Yes, Wanda and I attacked the flowering crab tree Friday afternoon, and I continued Saturday morning. DH was out of town - he protects the tree AND would have been an unwanted sidewalk superintendent. The tree has had that crabapple fungus for the past few years - doesn't kill the tree, just makes it drop lots of spotted leaves early in the season - ugly and messy! Wanda thinks by extensive pruning - basically thinning and removing branches/suckers from the center of the tree, that more air will circulate and fix the problem. This is the tree's last chance - it's beautiful in the spring when blooming, but a pain the rest of the season. I've tried spraying with no effect. Thanks Wanda!
I had the same problem with my crabapple---thinning it each year seems to keep it healthy & green without insecticides & poisons.
Linda, over in the Rose forum they are talking about this stuff called Messinger. Check it out, it might be a help to your situation. I can't explain it correctly so you need to go read about it for yourself. ;)
Diann
Thanks, Ticker, I'll check it out.
