Can vines climb PVC?

So. Puget Sound, WA(Zone 8b)

I want to plant some vines around the base of my deck. I have bunches of PVC left over from a couple of projects and I'm thinking of making trellises with it. Would clematis be able to climb it until it gets to the deck railings?

not sure if it would just climb the PVC, but my son said to tell you to put screws in it (you could paint them white) at intervals and it would definitely climb it them. Just a thought!

I grow alot of clematis & I always have to tie them up. The ones I don't tie just poke out until they get heavy enough to drop down. LOL I would imagine that anything you use you will have to tie too, so pvc should be fine as long as it is sturdy enough to not bend when the clematis eventually gets heavy. Good luck! :~)
