Now for something completely different

Stressbaby has thrown down the gauntlet, so off into the hinterlands we go.

This freak tree is from western China, the only genus in the family. Just saw it again last week at Kevin's house in northern IL.

I bet there's Botanary or Garden Terms for this that I need to learn (only genus in a family, not freak tree in northern IL).

O ME! PATELLA PUREE PIES!

Timely, regarding the recent knee surgery...

Edited so that the reference sections of DG are highlighted.

So I stray off the continent, and you run for the hills.

I got a few more versions of this; can't just let them go to waste.

EMU PETIOLE APPEALERS

PAMELA'S PETIOLE PUREE

EERIE PAELLA MUTES POP

TUPELO PEEPER MALAISE

And finally, some fractured French...

OUI, LES PATÉE M'APPELER

Obligatory hints:

This is a rename, too, at least at the species level. Used to go by __ davidiana, and is probably more often seen under this specific epithet, but I'm using PlantFiles nomenclature.

Tree, 20-30 ft (5-10 m) tall, attractive dark red-stamened flowers, fall foliage red.

Fulton, MO

Holy cow, VV, you're making us really work for this one. Will take seeds, if available. ;-) SB

Hey SB, Forest Farm has it. I'm looking at their catalog and it's listed.

Stressedout and (I assume) Exiguousness have gotten this one, offline.

By close of business, I'll post the answer if no one posts it here.

A few more versions:

ME: PETIOLULE APPEASER

AERIAL PEOPLE SEEM PUT

AMELIA'S PEP TORE LEE UP

PUERILE OATMEAL PEEPS

POEM LAUREATES PIP EEL

PREMISE: PAELLA TOUPEE

EEP! SPIRAEA TUPELO ELM!

More hints:

•PlantFiles lists two west coast nurseries selling this plant; can't find it in one of the catalogs on-line
•PlantFiles has no common name listed; maybe nominations are in order (no expletives allowed)
•PlantFiles has no pictures, comments, or even zip codes listed for this species
•Two more synonyms: __ franchetii; __ delavayi
•First letter of genus is E

Fulton, MO

E - I found it, way back in the small quantities list, thanks. SB

Is it Carpinus wemcurbihkvisabengisdobrovgbii?

Guy S.

Oh, very close but no bananas Guy!

OK, you're just mocking me now.

Despite all the puree, toupees, emus, eels, paella, oatmeal, various plants and body parts (and poor Lee), there is an obscure plant underneath it all.

Euptelea pleiosperma (and I did see this plant, again, in St. Charles IL last Tuesday).

So, I'm surmising that no one wants to go down the really rare road...

Quoting:
OK, you're just mocking me now.

NOOOOO!!! I would never do that!!!
(Hee-hee-hee!)

I'm just crappy at solving jumbles, and I got a kick out of where Scott was heading so I thought I'd draft him for a while!
