Bird-proof liners for wire hanging baskets?

Westerville, OH(Zone 6a)

Last summer the birds discovered that the coconut and peat moss liners that I used in my wire hanging baskets made great nesting material. Birds were regularly ripping out large mouthfuls/chunks of the liners and taking it back to their nests. As a result I was "patching" the liners of my baskets all summer long, and even then they looked shabby all season long. This summer I plan on buying a bag of pine bark mulch with the largest pieces I can find and then using those big pieces of pine bark to line the baskets. Has anyone else had this problem? If yes, how did you solve it? I am open to any and all suggestions.

I had more of a problem with mourning doves making a nest IN my hanging baskets! I put a few small pieces of cut up chicken wire in the basket and that took care of that!
For your problem I might try this-go to a kids toy store and buy some of those realistic rubber snakes. Put one in each basket, and move them around once in awhile. Good luck! kim
