Is Canada's W*I*N*T*E*R back???

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

This winter was predicted to be relatively mild in much of Canada, with above-normal Arctic temperatures, on average, with only occasional very cold periods.

I'm just working I do part time veterinary work all around the NW and Alaska. This 2 weeks are in Kodiak AK. I'll be back in Montana in 2 weeks. Its fun working when the gardening is all done.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

We finally got cold weather in Ottawa for Winterlude, our annual winter festival. The canal is open for skating (60,000 last weekend) and the snow sculptures are in great shape. Bright sunny days at -5, cold clear nights to -15. Snow coming later in the week.

Last two weeks were so warm I had to shovel snow over my Royal Fern (transplanted in October) to make sure it didn't freeze. Good thing I did.

Blyth, ON(Zone 5b)

I'll probably never move back Pam - my life is here now. All of my and my DH's family, my friends of many years. I'll certainly be more than happy to visit there occassionally though. My DH has never been there and apparently he has family there too. Maybe sometime next year we'll go out for a vacation.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Soferdig even in gardening season that sounds like fun (except for those NASTY northern summer flying pests;).

Andy I hope your digi is in good working order....cause WE WANT TO SEE PICS!!! Please. :)

Ginny I take it you've now accepted you're gonna be seeing a whole lot more snow then. ;)

Blyth, ON(Zone 5b)

Never!!!! I'll never give up hoping for a balmy zone 8 climate - it's jes gonna hafta be in Ontario :-)

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Lilypon, that's a good idea. Maybe I'll set out with my camera. It's supposed to snow later today and tomorrow it's supposed to go above freezing which is NOT good for the ice sculptures. Afraid that I didn't get out on the weekend, but as Andy said, it was picture perfect for Winterlude. Keep you fingers crossed. There's one more weekend left in the Festival. Sure hope it's not like the first which was a washout.

A travelling locum vet. What a neat idea.

Only in USA or have you been to Oz and other exciting places? Loved your photo

Blyth, ON(Zone 5b)

Of course I see the fairies - doesn't everyone? (pssssssst! They ride squirrels when they think nobody's looking you know.)

Orangeville, ON(Zone 4b)

Whatever is in the water in your area Ginny, I'd sure like to have some so I can seeing squirrel-riding fairies too, lmbo!!!!

Blyth, ON(Zone 5b)

It's hard to catch them at it 'cause it's considered "undignified" - but ever so much fun :-)

There's proof. Snow days can make you crazy.

Blyth, ON(Zone 5b)

Actually, it's the coffee :-)

Thumbnail by ginnylynn
Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

lololol..........psssssssssst Ginny maybe you should drink just a little bit less??? :0

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 2b)

Ginny,

Am sure that is caused by Kicking Horse coffee.

The other Ginny in BC digging roses that need a back hoe.

Blyth, ON(Zone 5b)

LOL Ginny, I've actually tried that Kicking Horse coffee - and it sure does kick!

Pam, how on earth would I see the fairies if I cut down on my caffiene? They're so small they move quicker than my eyes could normally follow them - ohhhhhhhhhhhh! Is that why you guys can't see the fairies and I can - 'cause I'm flitting around at the speed of light and you're not?

Well I am sending the Gulf of Alaska to you now. We are suffering in 48 F and light rain falling. The Japanese current is pleasantly bathing us in intermittent sun then rain then sun again. Things are getting quite green now. I hope you don't get cold down there in the South. LOL.

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

Got the message after I had to download updates. LOL. My wife is hard at work saving my Japanese Maples by covering them with snow and straw. I am worried what is happening down in Kalispell. Oh well the plants just get hardier.
Picture is game room here at the mansion. Grizzley keeps me company watching tv with the others.

Boy I'm glad I'm in the warm north. Its good to be near the artic circle.
I just got off ordering wild flower seeds to start covering my 2 acres of meadow. I'm excited. All love the dry unkept useless soil that I have in my sunny meadow. I got them from American Meadows.

Notice how my area of southern Ontario (yellow in the first map, dark green in the second) is in the +10 range in both maps? AND....the freezing rain has (so far - fingers crossed) completely missed us. Unfortunately, the snow did not. Went outside at 4:00 a.m. and it looked as though it had just started snowing. Went back out at 4:45 a.m. and we had at least 4 inches.

Temp is supposed to rise to +8 today, keep rising to +9 overnight, then drop rapidly to -5 by tomorrow afternoon. Tomorrow night's low is forecast to be -19. Snow squalls for Saturday. Over the next couple days we're in for a real mixed bag. Precipitation amounts and types are anybody's guess.

--Ginny

Orangeville, ON(Zone 4b)

And just what on earth are you doing up at 4am Ginny? Lol
We got hit with snow this morning that turned into freezing rain on our drive into work. All in all, not too bad though....hovering around 0 degrees.

Erynne

Blyth, ON(Zone 5b)

I have to get up at 4am Erynne. I live in Blyth now, but I still work in London. So I'm up at 4, out the door at about 5:20, and arrive at work by about 6:35. Why so early? 'Cause my DH has to be at work by 7am, and he works all the way across town from me. And also 'cause we only have one winter-worthy car - my car is a little sports job. Goes real fast, but doesn't handle worth a darn on snowy roads :-) --Ginny

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Happy to see your reply Ginny I was about to check Ontario's directories for the nearest Coffee Anonymous Group for you. ;)

No wonder you hate snow when you have to drive those distances every day. :S
