Electrical Help needed!!!

I know there's a new Forum for Electrical, but I need answers so I'm posting here and PLEASE DONT MOVE this thread.
I have recently had DM's house repainted inside and out. I thought the yellowed sockets looked bad against all the new white wood work so I went thru and replaced all of them. I did the first bedroom fine. When I did the second bedroom on that circut I must have messed up because now I can't get either room to work.
What should I do? I have a 'thingy' that makes noise when close to electricity. I also have a plug in outlet tester.
